Teaching is no longer just about what students know. It’s also about how they judge what they see, hear and share.

Every day, students encounter information, videos, social media posts, AI-generated content and online trends that influence how they learn, think and interact. Schools have an important role in helping students navigate this digital world with confidence, curiosity and responsibility.

This one-hour awareness session will introduce school leaders and educators to the importance of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) in everyday school life. Through practical insights and easy-to-adopt initiatives, the session will explore how schools can encourage critical thinking, responsible digital participation, information verification and safer technology use.

The focus is simple: MIL is not just another subject to teach. It is a life skill that every learner needs.

What Will Participants Explore?

  • MIL in everyday school life: Why media and information literacy matters for students, teachers and school leaders.

  • Think before you trust or share: Helping students question information, identify misinformation and evaluate online content.

  • AI and responsible digital participation: Encouraging students to engage thoughtfully and ethically with AI and digital platforms.

  • From awareness to action: Discovering simple ways to introduce MIL activities through classroom discussions, student writing and school initiatives.

  • Getting involved: Exploring the Lil Bloggers Contest 2026, the School Leaders and Teachers MIL Survey, and the HSI School Connect Programme.
