What is this Virus?

Covid-19 is a deadly disease caused by the coronavirus. The first case of this virus  was found on 17th of november. It had emerged from the place called Wuhan in China, where there is the top virological centre where people used to study about different types of viruses.Right next to this centre there is a place called the "Wet market",where butchers have live animals and dead aquatic animals and if people want any of one of the live organism, the butchers slaughter the animal in front of the customers.Because of  killing animals in that place there is full of blood in that area. This can be 1 reason for the disease to emerge and the other reason could be the excretion of animals in the same place.

How did this disease spread?

  • COVID-19 can be passed from person to person through droplets from coughs and sneezes.
  • COVID-19 has been detected in people all over the world, and is considered a pandemic.

What are the symptoms?

  • fever
  • sneezing
  • dry cough
  • cold
  • body pain
  • breathing problem
  • It appears that symptoms are showing up in people within 14 days of exposure to the virus.

What are the impacts on people?

  •  This has infected more than 500,000 people in at least 199 countries and territories globally
  • To make things worse, the disease is spreading rapidly around the world, with countries like Italy, China and USA reporting more than 80,000 cases each.
  • Other European countries like France, Germany and Spain have also seen a recent spike beyond 20,000 cases.

Which catogery of people are affected a lot?

  • ?The elderly: People who are over the age of 60 are at a higher risk of developing a severe case of COVID-19
  • Children: Children, on the other hand, don’t appear to get as sick. Very few develop the disease in the first place, and if they do, only a small group develop severe or critical disease. No young children have died from the virus in China.
  • People with chronic conditions: People who have  health conditions like high blood pressure, kidney disease, cancer, or diabetes are also more likely to get very sick or die from COVID-19. Around 9 percent of people with diabetes who contracted the virus died, and around 8 percent of people with high blood pressure.
  • Everyone else: Most people who are young or healthy and who contract the virus don’t get severely ill. But if you have the virus, even if you don’t get that sick, you might come into contact with people who are more at risk — and pass the virus to them.

What is the total number of people who have got infected due to this disease?

  • 607,299 cases
  • 27,677 deaths
  • 134,295 recovered

How is this disease treated?

  • As of now, there is not a specific treatment for the virus and still the vaccine has been not invented.
  • People who become sick from COVID-19 should be treated with supportive measures

Self-care

  • If you have mild symptoms, stay at home until you’ve recovered. You can relieve your symptoms if you:
  • rest and sleep.
  • keep warm
  • drink plenty of water.
  • use a room humidifier or take a hot shower to help ease a sore throat and cough

How to prevent this disease to come to us/to spread it to others?

  • Stay home as much as possible and reduce visitors.
  • Practice social distancing
  • Stay at least six feet away from others in public places.
  • Call friends and family or visit by video.
  • Ask your employer if it’s possible to work from home.
  • Avoid people who appear to be sick.
  • Go grocery shopping and run errands during off-peak times.

Wash your hands with soap and water frequently and thoroughly for at least 20 seconds, especially:

  • After being in public places and touching door handles, shopping carts, elevator buttons, etc.
  • After using the bathroom
  • Before preparing food
  • If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, especially with unwashed hands.
  • If you cough or sneeze, do so in the bend of your elbow. If you use a tissue, throw it away immediately.
  • If u are going out wear a mask.
  • This way we can reduce the number of people getting affected by this disease!

So don't have too much contact mainly with elderly people, always wash your hands and legs thoroughly and don't have too much contact with your face.

So be safe at home and don't come out of your house unecceserely.

Interesting facts about COVID-19:

  • Coronaviruses are named for their appearance: Under the microscope, the viruses look like they are covered with pointed structures that surround them like a corona, or crown.
  • The pointed stuctures in this virus contains protien due to this they can get easily attracted to the cell membrane, can destroy all the organells in the cell and will cause severe life threatning diseases.
  • This virus does not affect anyone if they are outside of their host cell. But if they enter the host cell they will affect people badly.
  • Other coronaviruses can cause more serious diseases, including severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS).
  • Coronaviruses are common in different animals. Rarely and horribily,an animal coronavirus can infect humans.

THANK YOU!
