Our country, India got its freedom on 15th of August from the British. In order to achieve it, lots of freedom fighters in India helped our country to attain that freedom. In today’s blog, I am going to talk about some of the peculiar facts about them (I’m not going to bore you by explaining about them, since you may already know a  lot).

Mahatma Gandhi:

  • You will be surprised to hear that Gandhi wasn’t a great student. He was good at English, but weak in Geography. I know, peculiar right?

  • Once, a friend of his encouraged him to eat goat’s meat. He agreed to eat since he was physically weak at that time. But that night, he had a dream in which he saw the goat crying in his stomach. Since then, he never ate goat’s meat again.

Sardar Vallabhai Patel:

  • His early ambition was to be a barrister.

  •  31st October is not his real date of birth. Yes! He was asked for his date of birth in an exam, and he randomly said 31st October. Since then 31st October is considered his date of birth.

Jawaharlal Nehru :

  • He survived for recorded assassination attempts each one of them in 1947, 1955, 1956, 1961.

  •  He spent 3259 days in prison during the freedom struggle. Can you believe that?

Subhas Chandra Bose:

  • He was jailed 11 times during his fight for freedom. 11!

  • At the age of 16 he was fascinated by the teachings of Ramakrishna and many more sages after reading their works.

Bhagat Singh:

  • He was so determined to free India that he quit school to devote his life to independence and was also accused of killing a British police officer and was hanged.

  •  Since childhood, he always wanted to banish the British from India. He always talked about guns and wished that he could grow guns in the fields to fight the British with.

Bal Gangadhar Tilak:

  • The Britishers called him 'Father of the Indian Unrest'. Yes the Britishers !

  • Tilak had his own newspaper, called Kesari, which is still active today!

Rani Lakhsmi Bai:

  • Her cousins are actually Nana Sahib and Tatya Tope.

  • Unlike most girls, she learned martial arts, horse riding and sword fighting at an early age. Impressive, right?

So those were some of the peculiar facts about the Freedom Fighters of India. There are 22,468 fighters in total. I told you about only seven. Yeah… Anyway, see you next time!

Before leaving, you can also comment below if you some facts about our great freedom fighters, I'm waiting.

Until then, Jai Hind.

This blog post has a lot of good information, Akshobhya! Just remember that freedom can be taken away so it is really important to continue to use your voice to advocate for freedom in the future.
