Many Indian cheats are conducting hobby exams in the name of ” Olympiads ” or Science Olympiad.

These hobby exams lead to nothing. Almost all students get certificates. These cheats charge hefty fees from students and send bunch of blank certificates to every participating school. Almost all principals can write certificates for themselves. NSO National Science Olympiad is one such example.

While the official Olympiads are those conducted by IAPT ( Indian Association of Physics Teachers ), IACT ( Indian Association of Chemistry Teachers ) and HBCSE ( Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education, Chembur, Mankhurd, BARC Mumbai ).

The Physics Olympiad exams are as follows

Level 1 NSEP = National Standard Exam in Physics

Level 2 INPhO = Indian National Physics Olympiad ( Here around 300 students are allowed to take the exam and around 35 are invited for the National camp at Mumbai )

Level 3 National camp at Mumbai, from where 5 students are selected to participate at International Physics Olympiad ( IPhO )

The Chemistry Olympaid selection has the similar exam sequence

Level 1 NSEC = National Standard Exam in Chemistry

Level 2 INChO = Indian National Chemistry Olympiad

Level 3 National camp at Mumbai ( HBCSE – Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education Mankhurd, BARC Campus, near Chembur )

5 students go for IChO ( or ICO ) International Chemistry Olympiad

Mathematics the exams are RMO ( Regional Maths Olympiad ), then INMO ( Indian National Math Olympiad ), then camp at HBCSE.

The students who represent India at IPhO, IChO or IMO ( International Maths Olympiad ) are sponsored by Govt Of India. Lodging, Boarding are taken care by Govt. of India.

India hosted the 33rd International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in 2001 at Mumbai. This was India’s third year of participation. In year 2012 India hosted APhO ( Asian Physics Olympiad ) at New Delhi. The 46th IPhO was hosted at Mumbai, India in July 2015.

The selection for National Camp happens in the following steps ….

1 ) NSEP ( National Standard Exam in Physics ) and NSEC ( National Standard Exam in Chemistry ) held around 24th November.  Approx 35,000 students appear for these exams every year. The exam fees is Rs 100 each. Since 1998 the IIT JEE toppers have been topping these exams and they get to know their rank / performance ahead  of others.

2 ) INPhO ( Indian National Physics Olympiad ) and INChO ( Indian National Chemistry Olympiad ). around 300 students in each subject are allowed to take these exams. Students coming from outside cities are paid fair from the Govt of India.

3 ) The Top 35 students of each subject are invited at HBCSE ( Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education ) Mankhurd, near Chembur, BARC, Mumbai. After a 2-3 weeks camp the top 5 are selected to represent India. The flight tickets and many other expenses are taken care by Govt of India.

The type of Questions and course is identical to IIT JEE. You can contact Prof. Subhashish ( mokshya@gmail.com ) for appearing for these exams and seeing the past question papers.

The registration for Physics, and Chemistry exam can be done by paying 100 X 2 = 200 Rs. This has to be done in August. For South Bangalore Students the exam center will be Vijaya College near South End circle
