“Recess” - The word plays music in our head. Not only that period is utilised to stuff your mouth with tasty food items but it is also the time to play, bond, have fun and most importantly create some wonderful memories that no amount of money can ever buy. Recess is that magical time every child in school waits for. Unfortunately, the harsh truth is that the biggest worry parents have about recess is how they should make their kids eat right. Children tend to ignore food due to several temptations like games, other friends and other unhealthy snacks. Parents, especially in India leave no stone unturned to ensure their child gets nutrition and taste in their tiffin boxes. Are they successful in their attempt? Yes and No!

With the changing times, a child is spoilt for choice when it comes to buying water-bottle or a tiffin box. The psyche of a child getting attracted to visually appealing things is none other than a smart psychological principal. The commercial markets are smart enough to come up with colourful tiffin boxes and other merchandise that not only entice the child but also makes him less fussy about the dabba. The tiffins, on the other hand have undergone a creative makeover.

Tiffin no longer means a box containing the same old roti-sabzi or Bread-jam. Parents strive hard enough to create delectable cuisines that has a mix of nutrition and taste. It is a fact well-known that kids are fussy eaters and it is the duty of every parent and school to ensure that what goes into a child’s stomach is wholesome and healthy.

Many schools are coming up with in-house tiffin system where the school chalks out a menu healthy for the kids. The authorities have made sure that a lot of different seasonal veggies, fruits and nuts are included into their diet. The school’s cafeteria has brought well balanced meals for kids to make parents so happy.

After all, a child needs lots of energy to explore and live like a child. Ell, as they say being a child is not a child’s play…
