Education is essential not only in India but also in the world, it is at the heart of development and sustained access to meaningful learning. The independence of India on 15th August 1947, changed the whole education system. Not only the way of teaching but also the activities integrated into the curriculum.

"Education is at the heart of development and sustained access to meaningful learning. All in all education after the independence has taken a turn to be beneficial for everyone. The system surely has its flaws and downfalls but these are overshadowed by the practicality and pragmatic mindset of educators."

Drastic changes were made during the British rule in India with the suggestion of Mahatma Gandhi, to start the system of professional education. He suggested this so that the awareness about the rights of the people would be more known to the public. Even though this was started during the British rule, we are still using it to this day.

In the 70 years of independence, things have changed and not changed a lot simultaneously. The fields and subjects along with the value we give to the subjects have not changed but the way we are teaching our students has.

I believe that the quality of education has significantly increased in the 21st century. The various methods used in this day and age help students not only theorize the ideas but also implement and practice it to prove the theory.

Hands-on studies are making a name for themselves as they make students learn faster and refrain them from making mistakes. This generation is at its peak when it comes to education as information is available at all times through the internet. Free learning resources and applications like Khan Academy help students learn the concept even when they are out of school.

Everything is available at the tip of our fingertips and that’s what makes the teaching and learning process more interactive and interesting. Technology has progressed a long way and is now being used in classrooms to show presentations, internal workings of machines and to solve problems as well.

But everything has a negative effect. Along with the endless sea of knowledge comes addiction to technology and distractions from studies.

With the evolution in our politics, there has been an evolution in our system. Parents are getting more involved sometimes to the extent of nagging; teaching has moved further from only going to school and has continued to classes after school. Tuition classes are at their peak in 2018 with children and parents alike worried about the future.

Informing children about various things from the early years make them more socially inept that in turn makes them great decision makers. Parents and teachers are taking the initiative to encourage children to read books, tabloids, magazines, and newspapers specially made for the students’ information; schools also provide students with these papers at the end of the day. This not only keeps them up to date with the happenings of the world but also enhances their vocabulary making them more eloquent in both speech and writing.

As the students are learning about the issues in the world, they are becoming more empathetic, open and tolerant towards things. This is one of the major reasons why our nation is developing at a high rate.

Raising awareness as educationists about taboo topics that people usually shy away from is essential. Mental health is a topic plaguing this generation; by raising information we are giving students the freedom to be able to address these issues as well. Nothing good ever comes from keeping things in the dark or behind closed doors.

Acknowledgment and appreciation for the work done by students have also increased in the past few years. Giving students confidence makes them reach their full potential and this has been extremely evident in the recent years.

All in all education after the independence has taken a turn to be beneficial for everyone. The system surely has its flaws and downfalls but these are overshadowed by the practicality and pragmatic mindset of educators and education in 2018.
