Jyothi, a 17 years old girl, after a long unavoidable struggle through childhood because of medical reasons, finds solace in music in her preteen. Completely visually challenged by birth, but that’s not the only challenge she faces in her everyday life. A special kid with a cognitive problem, which restricts her communication along with ADS issues, which make it hard on her some time.
Life isn’t easy for a special kid, with behavioral issues. A social life is very important while growing up, like friends, and other outdoor activities, which wasn’t possible for Jyothi because of obvious reasons.
At 7 years old, Jyothi started schooling at a blind school, but at 9, she denies to go to school. Hence she starts special education specifically for kids with her problems.
Well, that’s the struggles and hardship Jyothi faced in her everyday life, but as a parent, her mom cannot accept this as her fate and let her suffer.
Life takes a positive turn as music was introduced in her life. Her mother finds positive characteristics rather than her shortcomings. She discovered her Jyothi’s love for music and both Mom and Daughter duo gets the right direction, called Music.
At the age of 10, she started vocal Carnatic music lessons, and at 11 she started with the keyboard too. Music was the missing piece of her childhood and once found, no stopping her. At the age of 13, she joined the Govt music college.
At 16, she finished her course on Isai Kalaimani, and at 17, she finished a teaching course in music and became a certified music teacher. Now she teaches and helps kids with Carnatic, Hindustani vocal music and also violin and keyboard. Even though she gets the spell of tantrums sometimes, music calms her down. Now she is BA music student, learning violin.
In spite of the health issues, she has accomplished several credits with her and her Mom’s hard work and perseverance. She sang one of her favorite song (Kannama - Movie: Rekka) during an event and it was very well received and got the attention of a famous composer GV Prakash, who gave her a chance to sing his composition for a movie called “Adangathey”. Her music talent gave her chance to travel to Malaysia. There she got several stages to display her musical talent. She got a chance to inspire and become a role model for many kids in schools there. Indeed a proud moment.
Jyoti’s success overcoming odds was acknowledged in newspapers like Dinamani, Dinamalar, Aval Vikatan, Anandha Vikatan, and Mangayar malar. Several other media supported her to show her that, she can do it too, thanks to Podhigai TV, Vijay TV, Sun TV, Kalaignar TV, and Puthiya Thalaimurai TV.
The most important supporters who helped, mentored and brought out her musical talents and reach the people and recognize her as a musician, the Best Singer under various categories, are the Non-Profit Organizations like Lit the Light, Headway Foundation, Raindrops, JCI Sivakasi, Nethrodaya, Orchestra RAPS Prasanth Chikbuk, School of Sucess, Sunshine Nakshatra
