RiseUp4SDGs Gender Equality Panel Discussion Round Up,

Ms Paramjeet Kaur Dhillon needs no introduction now as the RiseUp4SDGs moved to Episode 5 Gender Equality. The RiseUp4SDGs has now become “We RiseUp4SDGs”’ so many educators are empowered & school stories from different countries & different schools have made it truly international collaboration of not just educators but the students have joined hands as well.

Sustainable Development Goal is the fifth of the 17 SDGs established by the United Nations in 2015. Equality and empowerment includes freedom from discrimination and violence. It also includes making sure woman have their equal share of leadership opportunities and responsibilities, as well as property ownership and other concrete reflections of power in society.

The curtain was raised by Paramjeet Kaur Dhillon spreading her energy & enthusiasm by introducing the panelists.

SDG Gender Equality, SDG 5 , NexSchools Media Partner coverage for RiseUp4SDGS

The moderation was executed meticulously by Mr. Selvam Ravindranath Ghiyasuddin International School Male, Republic of Maldives.

The keynote speaker of the day, Dr. Meenakshi Narula Principal Shemford Futuristic K-12 School, Auraiya, from India highlighted that all men & women must be treated equally despite their biological differences. Education & workforce can become great equalizer in bridging the gap of gender inequalities. She quoted slide18
United Nations has formulated 9 targets & 15 indicators for gender Equality.

She opned the floor to discuss about challenges and solutions by stating, “Equality and empowerment includes freedom from discrimination and violence. It also includes making sure woman have their equal share of leadership opportunities and responsibilities, as well as property ownership and other concrete reflections of power in society.”

Ms. Anju Mehta from  Shining Star International School, United Arab Emirates share her school story. She added her school has integrated SDGs in curriculum and followed by the whole school community. The school built the confidence of camera shy  girl students in their own to spreading the empowerment gained by collaborating with NGO that supports abused girls. The effort helped the girls from NGO rehabilitated. She also raised challenges girls face related to stereotypes & gender parity at workplaces.

Newsletter has become integral part of the RiseUp4SDGs which bring diverse views and impact full artworks with equally vivid imagination was very well unveiled by visual Hardeep Kaur Atwal, Kamla Nehru Public School, Phagwara, India. Over 500 articles, videos , poems & artwork were contributed for Gosl No 5 by different schools from across the world. Due to overwhelming response the newsletter has been divided into four parts:
Section A Students' voice with 140 contributions in the firm of 30 seconds videos.
Section B Art Gallery impactful  & definitely visual treat yo the eyes
Section C Creative Writing includes poems & articles
Section D dedicated to educators with 40 contributions

Ms. Ploy M Bunga Mayuree Onthong Ban Raman School, Thailand share d her school story with participation of girls in education. The government supports the budget for girls I and provides  food, uniform, money for poor students and specially abled children.

Ms.Kiran Zulfiqar, from AR Secondary School of Science Depalpur, Punjab, Pakistan walked the audience through the art gallery which brought delight amongst educators to see awesome visualization of the SDG5.

Ms. Shalini Chauhan -Indirapuram Public School, Delhi, India shared yet another impactful school story with the theme turning promises into action. The Director of the IGI group of schools has introduced SDGs in all the branches to actualise her vision to fostering a sustainable tomorrow. The schools promote SDGs by creating awareness and encouraging all the stakeholders to take actions that result into finding the ways to focus on the solutions that could transform our world over the next 10 years. The schools actively initiates various programs with  the aim to impart education to the underprivileged children living in and around Indirapuram.

Gender equality is ingrained the whole school culture such as gender sensitivity is at the helm of our prefectural board, universal uniform code for the girls and boys.

Mr. Bipas Thapa, English Teacher from Nepal represented his country’s values and  traditions which are very well part of the gender equality education and sensitization in schools. He highlighted various programs that schools take up to show children gender equality in action such as students field visit on fishery farming, visit to nursery where male and female both have been working.
