Rupali Dhamdhere Principal CM International School Pune India

Dr. Rupali Dhamdhere Principal of C M International School Pune. A teacher by heart enjoys her job thoroughly, loves to end the day by witnessing the students go back home happy and looking forward to coming back the next day.

Like a toxin becomes a cure, digital tools themselves can be used for effective time management.

We all are aware that digitization and technology are here to stay. There is no point in discussing the harmful effects of technology on our lives or how it is affecting our students unless we are mindful and conscious about the existence of technology in our lives. We are also investing so much time in technology but wasting it entirely on social networking and games. There is so much there in the virtual world that is positive. We can connect to people so far away immediately but unfortunately, we have misused it to just merely living in a cloud and not noticing the people sitting around us.

The need of their hour is to teach our students to be aware of the technology that is available and not scare them by just discussing the harmful effects of it.

Creating an awareness that there is a real world and display an example of balance between the real world and the virtual world, having a conscious realization that they have a personality and an identity even offline and not just online.

Life is not just about likes received online but real-time achievements and accomplishments.

The world has become a very compact place and we all are connected to reach each other like neurons in our brain.

Whatever one searches for leaves a digital footprint.

The students should know like strangers in the real world there are strangers in the virtual world as well so they should be very careful before they share any information or details about themselves online.

The best way is to Google yourself at regular intervals so be aware of the digital footprints that they have left behind.

How can we contribute as adults?

Be an exemplary parent/teacher, talk openly about the cyber world has a positive digital footprint.

Use technology as a tool and give our learners a voice that they may not have had earlier.

Introduce them to blogging.

Very rightly said by- Jenny Arledge, "Technology can become the 'wings' that will allow the educational world to fly farther than ever before – if we will allow it."
