Child Rearing

Generally schools arrange open house to show the exam papers to the students and parents. Some parents are happy and some are ready to fire their ward. Mother asks the explanation of every small mistake and taunts the child. Parents criticize the child and overburden the child with unfulfilled desires of their childhood. After watching this, I introspect and questions crowd in the mind.

Is there really a need for parenting workshop? Why the  behavioural and psychological problems increase than our generation?  Is there really a lack of “Sanskar”, which we are getting without Textbook of life skill in curriculum? What is the root cause behind the extreme need of counsellor?

We are frequently reading suicide cases of youth for really minor reasons . This generation is very intelligent but less patient. There are mostly nuclear families and both the parents are working. Kids are not spending enough time with their parents, which results in communication gap  between the child and parent. This missing bond and unavailability of parents doesn’t allow child to open up their problem with parents. And thus child losses the faith on parent .Child starts becoming solitude and obstinate. The consequences of this change can be seen in school in the form of hyper activeness, neglecting studies and attention seeking. At home electronic gadgets help the child to end his loneliness. Parents somewhere know that they cannot spend time with their children and so parents give costly gifts and arrange weekend outing to satisfy their guilt. This may be the chain behind behavioural and psychological problem of child. Apart from this there are many reasons like broken families, over expectations from child, Social status pressure or over strictness/pampering at home.

After many cases of suicides, parents realise the importance of child rearing. Now days, there are many parenting workshops held, which was unknowingly held by our grandparents and parents in our generation. Also Ayurvedic doctors started “Garbha Sanskar” to nourish the baby in the womb. Also sanskar classes( Bal bhavan) are going on in many school premises to teach shlokas and to tell moral stories. In the school, to protect child from extreme strictness, No Corporal Punishment rule been followed. Also the law is supporting child to protect from child abuse. So we all parents and teachers should work hard to create mentally strong, healthy and global citizen of India. I remember the beautiful quote of the Missile Man Dr. A.P.J.Kalam, “If the country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds."
